We've made this move ourselves
Family Doctor Life Winnipeg is run by Dr. Ahmed and the team at Jefferson Medical Centre. We built it because we kept having the same long phone calls with doctors abroad — and realised the answers should be available to everyone, whether or not they ever join us.
About Dr. Ahmed
Dr. Ahmed is a family physician in Winnipeg and the founder of Jefferson Medical Centre on Arlington Street. He practises full-scope family medicine — babies to palliative care — and has spent much of the last decade building a clinic that treats its patients and its physicians the same way: with time, and without unnecessary bureaucracy.
He also knows what it is to arrive somewhere new and start again. The paperwork, the credential checks, the strange feeling of being a competent doctor treated as an unknown quantity — that experience shaped how the clinic onboards internationally trained physicians today.
This series is his attempt to shorten that road for the people who are now where he once was.

We're a community family practice at 1553 Arlington St, Winnipeg, Manitoba, serving a mixed and often underserved patient population in the city's west end. The practice model is deliberately simple: fee-for-service billing, no on-call rota, your own schedule, and an established patient panel waiting when you arrive.

Why this initiative exists
Be honest about the trade-offs
Winnipeg isn't for everyone, and we'd rather you decide that early than a year into paperwork. We talk about the winters and the distance from home as openly as the upsides.
Build a stronger family medicine community
Manitoba needs family doctors, and doctors need colleagues who understand what they've moved through. Every physician who lands well makes the next arrival easier.
